Panaeolus cyanescens grows scattered to gregariously in dung and fertilised pastures and fields. Widespread in most (semi) tropical zones and occasionally seen in the Mediterranean region.

This strain is originally from Asia. It forms very robust mushrooms with a slightly serated cap. Like all Panaeolus cyanescens strains the mushroom is very potent

This species can be grown on a dung based substrate and is also reported to fruit on pasteurised straw. Spawn can be grown on rye (or other grain) and this is used to inoculate bulk substrate. Colonisation is fast and fruiting usually takes place within one week after exposure to fruiting conditions.

It is important to note that Panaeolus cyanescens is sensitive to high CO2 concentrations. When levels get to high, mushrooms grow long and spindly and abort at a premature age.
